Default Volvo Dealer service

Does anyone know if the EGR valve and all the muck is cleaned out by a main volvo dealer when they service the car? Car is due a service in a couple of months and I don't have the tools or spare time right now to start messing.

Am questioning this as my 1.9D 115bhp has dropped on MPG recently and all its tyre pressures are fine, not much weight in the car etc. Not running with heater and a/c on that much either.

Puzzled.

As the weather gets colder, you should expect a drop in MPG and wait until spring to get you previous values.....

To answer your question, cleaning the EGR is not part of any of the Volvo services as far as I know, unless if you ask for it specifically and get charged accordingly...... Or they may try to sell you a new one......

ShawnS40 came over at my place and we removed his EGR (including all the other bits to get to it) in less than 15 minutes. Then another 10-20 minutes cleaning it and another 10-15 to put everything back together

Cool

The dealers will probably just fit a new one and I would not be surprised if you got a bill of around 3 to 400 quid for a full EGR service.

You can visually see if there could be a blocked up EGR valve by just removing enough to look into the inlet manifold. Because mine had done mainly motorway miles when I bought it, the inlet was pretty clear, and when I got around to removing the ERG to clean it, that too was pretty clean...

To cheer myself up I swopped the S40 for the S80 this weekend and thought that a drop in MPG for the S40 is nothing to worry about compared to the horrendous MPG of the S80 (38MPG). Thats the price you pay for more power and a geartronic box that doesn't suit the car! Previous auto S80 had a brilliant gearbox and this one does not seem as slick - hangs on too long before changing up (and im light footed).

Will investigate EGR etc next weekend. S40 does a complete mix of urban and motorway miles and was returning approx 50MPG.

Thanks all

Yeah just check the guide for the EGR and give it a clean out, doesn't take long
