Will it work?
So I have found out from a member on here who had a 360 he put a B230ET engine in the 740 turbo pressure plate will bolt straight onto the 360 clutch and this will hold the extra power nicely.
However I was wondering does anyone know if the 740 turbo pressure plate will bolt onto the 340 clutch? The 360 clutch is 215mm (IIRC) and the 340 clutch is 200mm and the 740 clutch i believe is 228mm. Thanks for any info in advance. |

? The pressure plate does not bolt to the clutch plate, it bolts to the flywheel with the clutch plate in the middle. Any clutch plate will work (within reason), but I doubt the 340 plate will fit the 360 drive shaft splines (although I'm not entirley sure). Its a completely different design.
The main issue with the clutch plate is to get one that fit the 360 drive shaft, otherwise you could just use the 700/900 plate. There are several different driveshafts splines in the 700/900s. The pressure plate squeezes the clutch plate against the flywheel and transmits the drive from the flywheel+pressure plate to the clutch plate and then the driveshaft. Plate thickness does matter to how much torque you can transmit. My old clutch on the 940 ran out of grip with 11psi boost, but a new one works ok. Last edited by TonyS9; Sep 21st, 2012 at 23:02. |

So I'm using B230ET flywheel which the 740 turbo pp bolts to so maybe a 340 clutch would work? Reason I'm asking is because I might try doing the engine conversion to a 340 instead of a 360 because 360's seem to be rarer so I don't really want to edit one if I can do it to the more available 340. |

Surely you are using a 360 torque tube, clutch housing and propshaft?

The parts for the gearbox are the same mainly (between 340 and 360) I just want to know whether the 740 turbo pp will work with the 340 clutch and B230ET flywheel like the 360 clutch will. Thanks |

Yes the gearbox is essentially the same but thats got nothing to do with the clutch housing or clutch plate. The prophsaft is entirley different and the 340 does not have a torque tube.
Sounds like you expect the 340 clutch housing to fit the B2xx engine, it won't you need 360 parts all the way back to the gearbox, you at least need the front part of the 360 gearbox that bolts to the torque tube. The 200/700/900 Volvo using the B2xx engines have gearboxes bolted to the clutch housing, the 300s are very different with the gearbox at the back, so if you want a B2xx in a 300 you need 360 parts. The 340 use Renault Engines, the clutch and output shafts are incompatible. |

Thanks Tony I didn't know the gearboxes would be that different between 340/60 bugger.
Ah well I'll just do the conversion to a 360. Thanks for the info. |
