195/50/15s on standard steels.
Hello,
I have a 940 TD of which has a few coils cut off the springs, now the 185/65/15s i currently have give a good balance between ground clearance and arch filling abilities...But one has a nail in and two have seen much better days. I also own a civic which i have a spare set of wheels for, of which are shod in 195/50/15s on two and 205/50/15s on the other two. Do you reckon such a low profile(for a volvo) will look totally and utterly foolish? I am almighty dubious that it will look nothing less than terrible but don't want to spend out on new tyres if its not necessary. So, does anyone have an pictures of a lower profile 15 inch tyre on a 700/900. That it how the car looks now... Thanks in advance, Lee. |

Yes, I think it will look daft - sorry. I think the standard wheels/tyres look a bit lost in the arches usually, so going smaller will look worse.
Also - it will make the car much lower geared which isn't what you want with a diesel, too many revs. And, it will put the speedo out. Sell the 195/50's and get some part worn 195/60; 205/60 or 205/55's which will be better. Edit - the one with a Nail in can probably be repaired for £5-10.

You would need 25mm spacers to fit V70 wheels.

tnx,ian2000t for the info, its been said that the 960 wheels dont fit v70,s but i ran them for a week on my v70 and had no issues with them, i know the offset is diff, but had no rubbing on full lock, and no handling issue, do you know what the issue were, just for knowlege, cheer ian

Facelift 960 uses the same offset as the FWD Volvos - i.e. 850/S/V70 etc. so they are interchangeable.
All 740/760/940/pre-facelift use a lower offset. These would fit on a FWD car, but would sit 25mm (ish) further out. The other way round (i.e. FWD wheels on a RWD) would sit 25mm (ish) too far in, and foul suspension leg, etc, which is why you need spacers. For 5.5"/6" wide wheels, you might get away with something like a 15mm spacer to stop them rubbing, but it might look a bit daft - like my wide-arched mini in the winter on skinny 12's!

Id sell the tyres from the civic but they are Asias best quality ditch finders so won't be worth anything. As said i will probably get the one repaired. |

These are 205/55 on a 15x7 wheel. Stock ride height.
205/50's should be just about ok. |
