Hi all,
After I broke a rear lens on my 93 estate, I bought another off a scrap yard instead of paying GSF prices, the only problem is the lens is a bit dull, so I have used toothpaste as a mild cutting compound but this has not really made it much brighter, what else can I use to brighten up the lens??

You might not get the plastic bright ever again, plastics loose their plasticity and colours because of the actions of sunlight on them. (Photodegredation)
Try a silicon spray across it, and leave a `film` on it, that`ll add some sheen at least.

Autosol? Works surprisingly well on Perspex.

You can flat lenses back and polish them up the same way you would do with paint, even going so far as to smooth off the E marks if you really want to.
It may not bring the colour back though depending on how much of the dullness is due to UV fading and how much is just the surface being weathered.

you can get a cleaner called plastrx that does (with mechanical aids) take most of the bad plastic away ,not perfect but it makes a marked difference if you work at it.
i bought it for cloudy plastic windows on a tent but its useless on that ![]() at the bottom of the page they now sell headlight "restoration" kits but the plastrx is probably the goop used http://www.meguiars-online.co.uk/sho...FYcntAodt0YAzA i thought i had cured the cloudy rear light syndrome with clear varnish but it only lasted a few weeks Last edited by chesters6; Aug 4th, 2012 at 16:11. |
