240 Tailgate Loom
Hello,
As the MOT is due on my wife's 240,I thought it'd be a good time to replace the tailgate wiring looms. My local Volvo dealer quoted me about £35 per side, which I'd rather not pay as an Ebay seller is currently advertising them for about a tenner each, but is out of stock (even though he's still listing them!). Does anyone know of any other suppliers of these looms? To be honest I'd rather replace them than repair them. Thanks in advance, Chris. |

Hello Copperknob,
I was intending to fit them myself,my Volvo dealer wanted £35 just to supply the looms. I can't imagine what it would cost to have a dealer fit them. Wooble very kindly informed me that PFV do the right side loom, that has now arrived (great service!) and I shall be fitting it tomorrow morning. I'll probably get the left side loom from my Volvo dealer now. Cheers, Chris. |

i just fitted a driver side one. i got the car serviced when i bought it and the garage charged me £35 for the left one, plus i dont know how many hours' labour to fit it, along with many other small jobs.
so i bought a right side one from ebay for £12 and just got round to fitting it myself. a bit of a tip - the new loom wouldn't fit through the top part of the door when i tried to send it upwards (the single white connector at the end got stuck right up below the cross-head screw access hole. i flipped it round and pulled the other end down and it was fine. i used one of the original wires and some gaffa tape to pull it through. there's some good advice in various parts of the interweb, including: remove the gas struts in case they get twisted and leak; prop up the tailgate, or - even better - tie it to the garage roof. its nice to have the boot lock centrally again, and rear wiper. |
