Engine Rebuild, Where (none volvo)
Ok so this isn't really volvo related but you never know,
Am currently in middle of building a pug 309 to use as a track/road car and i've got a 405Mi16 engine for it, Anyway i set about stripping the engine to check it was ok and do all gaskets etc before i put it in car, anyway i've got head off and a couple of bores are scored and its done 130k so i've been thinking while its apart i might aswell sort it, But i have one problem, does anybody know where i can get either bottom end rebuilt or anywhere i can get bits to do it myself from, apart from dealers in yorkshire, preferbly leeds area, While were on subject 2 headbolts also snapped in block when i tried to undo them so does anybody know anywhere that could get them out properly without butching the block,

Rebuild engine
For the part extracting the snapped bolts a company called Boa do a brilliant extractor which simply fits in a standard drill stick the drill on reverse and it removed the thread without butchering the block.
I've got a set of these extractors and they're well worth it. as for the engine gaskets any good motor factors will be able to get them in for you. See if GSF or Europarts can get them in. Rebuilding engines is so much fun think i might have have to strip my 760's one. Try Norwich Engine centre see if they will mail you the parts you need they're really helpfull and quick. Charlotte |

contact an engineering firm that does engine machining/rebuilding. They may be able to spark erode the bolts out for you and might even be able to supply the parts, if you specify what you want. Make sure you go for a recognised make when it comes to bearings/pistons etc.Ideally the same manufacturer who makes them for the OEM. Or you could even get new bits from the dealer and just get the engineering firm to rebore for you if necessary.

engine rebuild
Hi the yellow pages or www.yell.co.uk will list engine rebuilding companies. Payne is one of the major engine part suppliers and I find their stuff is about the best you can reasonably buy. A lot of engine companies are going to want to install the parts for you. Have you considered a remanufactured engine ? Should be able to get a full engine for £500 maybe less.
A good bottom end kit is going to cost in the region of £30-60 for a good one ok you can buy cheapo ones which will last a few hundred miles. Here give these guys a ring Leeds Exchange Engines Mushroom St, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS9 7NB Tel: 0113 244 3734 Ashby & Anderson 191, Whitehall Rd, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS12 6EW Tel: 0113 279 0002 Diamond Diesels (UK) Ltd Unit 4, Blackburn Industrial Estate, Enterprise Way, Sherburn In Elmet, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS25 6NF Tel: 01977 683690 W.DRAKE Website http://www.wdrake.co.uk/ Bradford, BD4 7BG Tel : 01274 733541 http://www.impulsedevelopments.co.uk/ Rochdale, OL12 0AA Tel : 01706 650 800 Charlotte Last edited by charlotte001; May 28th, 2006 at 23:14. |

I would find a few Peugeot forums and see where these guys are getting their engines built.
Its worth spending the right money to get a decent engine done, one that won't let you down. Nothing worse than paying out for track time and having to trailer the car home instead. IMHO I would avoid the engine rebuilder/exchange firms like the plague. They also won't know very much about tuning which I assume you will be looking for. |

How Have The Bolts Broken? Are They Flush With The Block Or Do The Protrude Slightly? Are They Corroded In Or Just Sheared Off?
Have You Tried To Get Them Out? I Would Get A Set Of Stud Extractors,The Ones The Look Like A Left Handed Drill Bit,Drill The Centre Of The Stud And TAP The Extractor Gentley Into The Hole,Get Some Diesel And Pour A Little Into The Recess Thats Between The Block And Stud Leave For A Couple Of Hours,Fill Again And Go To Bed. In The Morning Fill Again And Try To Remove. Usuall I Find That Leaving The Diesel To Soak Will Help Move The Stubborn Studs As Diesel Is A Heavy Oil And Will Get Into Places Tha WD-40 Cant. I Did My First Part Of My Training On Pugs,We'd Always Be Fixing GTI's That Had Broken There Belts And Oftern One Of The Streatch Bolts Would Snap Off. Becareful Of Which Pug Tuning Firm You Use,My Mate Has A 205 GTI That Been In Our Group For About 5 Years,Going From Standard To Quite Highly Modded 8 Valver With Cams/BVFH/4 Branch/Etc. He Though This Was Good For A While But Wanted Turbo Power,So Off He Went To This Specialist,Who Were Going To Do The Conversion With A New TT T2,Then Proceeded To Pulled His Motor Apart To Fully Rebuild It. First Off They Said The Cam Was Shagged, 2 Exhaust Valves Had Started To Stick In The Guied And The Exhaust Seat Was Cracked,New Head Was Needed,The Crank Had Started To Spin A Bearing,Regrind Need,Not Just The Balancing. He Was Told He Could Collect In 6-8 Weeks,10 Months Later He Got His Car Back In A Horendus State,Dust Covered Everthing,Scratched Paintwork,Engine Smoking And Leaking Oil Like A Sieve,Went Back To Be Sorted. Once Run In Went Back For The Boost To Be Upped And Fith Injector Wired Up,Ran Good For 3 Months Then Began Buring Oil,Cause He Was Told Was Stem Seals As The Werent Reaplaced!!!?????. 2 Weeks Before He Got The Car Back,Then It Lacked Boost And Still Buring Oil. Took Car To TT Who Said It Wasnt One Of There Turbos And Listed Loads Of Things Wrong With The Car. The Did A Lot Of Work To The Car And Now All Is Fine With It. Just Hes Out Of Pocket By ££££ Because Of It. |

Thanks for reply time to get on phone me thinks,
As for head bolts that have snapped, they are about an inch into block as the thread for the bolts doesn't start until just over an inch into block so from what i can see it looks like the bolts have snapped where the threads start, One bolt didn't even move and just snapped, the other moved a few turns then went tight and wouldn't move in or out. Might try the diesel idea but am abit dubious about trying to drill them out myself as if i strip threads in block it will be bin material then. I want it to be fast but am staying N/A as unless its turbo engine to start with then your always going to have problems, am going filter, cams, exhaust to start with and see how it goes them maybe throttle bodies at a later date when my bank balance recovers.
