"740 2.4 Turbo Diesel engine' Anti-Freeze"
Would you recommend continuing to use Volvo anti-freeze (as has been done all the car's life so far) or will any good anti freeze be just as good?
Thanks, |

RE:
NO! Use only Volvo anti-freeze and use demineralised water too! I am taking apart a 940 SE Turbo which has had just plain water in it for a while, rust everywhere in the engine! Very bad!

RE: Anti-Freeze
Any good quality anti-freeze should be OK but don't use those containing methanol as it evaporates.
Use one containing glycol and remember to be careful to ensure you fill with the correct concentration. |

RE: Anti-Freeze
Why take the chance? Use Volvo Anti-freeze. Its not that expensive FFS :) And change it regularly, every 2 years. Its cheaper than new radiators, new head gaskets, cylinder heads, etc.

RE: Anti-Freeze
Better still use the "pink" anti freeze, it has summer coolant and a guaranteed life of 5 years!!!!!!
Just a thought.... Regards Dave M |

RE: Anti-Freeze
As it is a Volvo recomendation to change the coolant every two years that would make it a rather expensive purchase, unfortunately Dave, however, I applaud your sentiment. If, as you say, it is guaranteed for five years that might be a good reason to use it, but be very sure to change it at the five year end or you will have no guarantees after that. All the best, Peter |
