Default hole in back box loss of power and judder

Hi, I have a hole in my back box (no jokes please!), it was small and is now the size of a 2p coin. Since it has increased in size the car now judders when accelerating and a very noticable loss of power, with the engine management light flashing periodically.
Would a hole in the back box of the exhaust cause this or is it just a coincidence?

Thanks,
Andy

Id be inclined to say that was just a coincidence as about 10cm or less further down the back box from the little hole is a bigger hole the size of a tennis ball lol!

On a serious note though id probably start by bandaging that hole (if possible) and take it from there.

I have put a small metal plate over it and covered with chemical metal but will need to go over it one more time and see what happens then. I know you can get back pressure problems but always thought that would be by the cat, then again the back box is a weird square shape so who knows if it is creating bad readings in the sensors.
We shall see!

Hello, 2001 S60-how many miles? I've yet to see a hole in an exhaust part be it clean edged or rusty. Spreading zones of rust along seams and peeling are what we get here. See if there are any codes stored. Inspect your underhood vacuum lines for condition and connection. Intake and boost air plumbing are now "senior citizens". Kira

Hi, I have jacked the car up, took the wheel off and it is most definately a 2 pence size hole with exhaust gas streaming out of it. Car is 196,000, all done by me. If I can seal up the hole just to see if this is the cause of the judder and loss of power. Then great, if not at least I can look to see if it is any other issue.
