Default Charging the Battery

Ok People

I need your advice please. The V70 has just had her annual service and all was well apart from the fact that the battery was low. The Volvo guy charged it up but advised getting a trickle charger to keep the battery topped up. The problem is caused because the V70 is parked up for most of the week and only used at the weekends.

Now I have picked a charger from Halfords and it says to connect the red clip to the + terminal and the black clip to some bare metal on the car before then connecting to the power.

I have never done this before so any advice before I go ahead and try it?

I must admit I was expecting to connect both clips to the battery so good job I read the instructions!

Cheers
Alan

You don't need to open up the battery compartment. It is not necessary and would be so inconvenient that it would make using the battery maintainer too much trouble.

I have jumped other vehicles from my V70 using the + terminal in the engine compartment and connecting the ground to the upper torque control bracket. I have also charged the battery on my V70 the same way.

to the right of the engine cover you will see the fuse box next to the air filter, further along is a flap where the positive is under, for the negative just find a suitable earth in the engine bay.

The little flap adjacent to the fuse box cover, windscreeen side, hides the + terminal. Any convenient metal protrusion on the engine block will suffice for -. I use a trickle charger (300mA) on my S60 in the winter connected as above due to only occasional use and have had no problems. Good Luck.
