A very interesting topic this, one that I have been thinking about but dare not ask in case I were percieved as a boy racer.
I'd like some noise but not aggressive or overly sporty but something rather than nothing at all.

I once fitted a mid box from an escort MkII to the rear section of a talbot solara only because it's all I had lying around and my mum needed her car the next day.It was a smaller diameter pipe and boy did it sound nice.It sounded like a high revving fiat but not loud.It felt sportier although it probably didn't enhance the power any.

I have several stainless box's lying around from variouse cars and hope one day to try out different combinations.
So the rear box changes the note the most??And the center box creates resonance to create back pressure???

Would a bigger and slightly bigger bore pipe give it a deeper more mellow sound??
Like I said I don't intend annoying the nieghbours(Although they deserve it)And don't want to attract the police.

I think this post will be very informative.

Regards Brian.

Not in my experience...a bigger bore, 3 inch, gave Impreza drivers a shock and reverberated off of buildings when going through town!

The final straw was when I got a kid in a 'chavved' Citroen C2 pointing at it and giving me the thumbs up...it got swapped the next day!!

See before and after photos...
