This is interesting and should answer a few questions!

Yep...interesting...and still some differing opinions.
Given what I found in my PS reservoir (ie thin and greenish) I'll stick with Pentosin when and if I need a PS fluid replacement or top up. Neil

My last v70 was a 99 year model and that required ATF whereas my 2003 model reqs CF11 |

LOL...that just adds to the confusion.!!..the current fluid is definitely thin and greenish..and even if it is the "incorrect" fluid..isn't it better that way round rather than using ATF when it should be Pentosin.?..ie I'm assuming that Pentosin can't actually damage the PS system.? In the 3 years I've had the car I certainly haven't changed or topped up the PS fluid..and it's given no problems to date...works fine..no noises..no leaks. My handbook is actually a 1997 book (car is '98 registered)...and might not even be the one that originally came with the car when new of course.??? Neil

Certainly is a bit confusing however if anyone has access to VADIS then there is in the steering section a statement to say exactly what is and what is not to be used in what system id look but im having problems with it at the mo

I do really hate all these post Ford changes ,it is plain to see that all they want is our money for failed parts!! or even blame us for putting in the wrong fluid! why change to Pentosin, ok if your in Canada somewhere cold but surely not here in the UK.
Among my pet hates after 2000 are: DMF, Internal Slave Cylinder, Fly By Wire, VVT and now ATF versus Pentosin. All these stupid changes for what!!! Profit. The older Volvo mileages for parts do not stand anymore my S40 1.8 is on it`s second VVT in 72,000mls and i won`t repair it out of spite it still does 38mpg but i hate the car, now at 84,000 and just had both it`s droplinks done and a bottom wishbone joint for the MOT. I will not ever buy a post Ford Volvo again. Sorry about that but i feel do better now!

Well, mine's pre-Ford of course..but manufactured early in that era of change ('99-'01.?)...and a Denso car to boot...just to add a bit more confusion at times...LOL.
I seem to remember from somewhere in the deep dark recesses of my mind (scary!) that I thought my V70 might be a Canadian spec (I think it might have been something to do with the dash/CEL symbols.?)..but then again I might simply be hallucinating and overly embracing my natural ignorance..LOL Neil

Nothing really to do with ford, all producers have moved over to synthetic steering fluids as they are superior to the mineral based fluids |

My link shows to you there all at it including Ford, they want you to mess up your system by bringing in an alternative that nobody know`s about unless they read the small print in there wrong handbook ,but then it`s too late, money down the drain!! ATF has been fine for donkeys years.
