D5 - white smoke & oil in the exhaust on cold
Hello everyone,
My friend who's got a V70 D5 has a problem with his car. When the engine is cold there's white smoke in the exhaust and when he revs it harder it blows oil. Everything happens only on cold. The turbo is a bit more whistly than on my s60, hence I suspect the turbo but I appreciate your advice. The car has covered 120k miles. Thanks, Matt |

What do you mean by blows oil? Drips of black oil out the tail pipe on to the dry floor ? Or coloured oil patterns on a wet floor when raining and you rev it?

The coolant looks ok - no oil spots but the engine is a bit overfilled with oil - it's not in the middle of the scale but 2/3 of the full scale from the bottom. I compared the exhaust of my car with the "smoky" one and it's different. I don't get so much steam from the exhaust and mine is 160k miles. Last edited by v_matt_v; Jan 2nd, 2012 at 23:16. |

it looks like that there's water in the silencers and the oily grease turned out to be soot washed out by the water from the exhaust.
That's what was producing white smoke. |
