can only emphasise what has been said about the inherent problems on some models particularly the ETM problem.
I didn't research Volvo 'issues' as I have had Volvos for 30 years, and got used to virtually total reliability, and so naively went out and bought a 2000 XC70 just based on the usual old car critique method. Only when I read up on here about the dreaded ETM problem did I realise 'fings aint what they used to be '. Luckily the ETM has been replaced on mine so fingers crossed it will outlast my modest mileage over the next few years. Personally I would go for a pre '98 V40 ,from personal experince they are as close to bullit proof as you will get. Had never thought of Volvo in the same light as the Rover/MG K series HGF farce but Mj is right our beloved marque is now exactly the same. |
