You don't have to take the pump assembly out to remove the ecu. Taking the pump out means you will have to bleed the brakes which is obviously a lot more work.

In my experience taking the dash out takes longer than removing the abs ecu ;-)
If you take the bulb out you WILL have issues come MOT time as they specifically check that all the lights come on and then go out. Bearing in mind the current road conditions (being winter) you would be on very dodgy ground should you have an accident following which the car was examined and the "bodge" revealed. I appreciate you probably said the above in jest and I have merely posted to tell other people who might be thinking of doing it seriously what it might entail.
