Yet another alternator question
Hello, tomorrow I will be swapping my failed 'new' alternator with built-in regulator for a reconditioned original one with outboard regulator. Are there any secrets I need to know about to do the wiring mod? I seem to recall when I fitted the last one, the terminals needed changing (eg swapping bolt-ins for spades) and maybe the colour-coding was different. But then the one that came with the car was entirely non-standard, so that's nothing to go by.
Thanks.

See the attached drawing I did years ago for folks asking about putting an alternator in a Volvo that left the factory with a generator. It sounds like you have already done some of this but this might be a reference to others. Use as you see fit...

Sorry it took me a while to thank Agent Strangelove and reply to this - I'm a bit over-busy at the mo. The recon alternator and charge regulator are now fitted and working just fine. Simon Brookhouse included some notes about which wire to connect to what, and I just had to add a couple of wires and all is well. Reduced power compared to the 55A one now means I'm back to a flickering red light when the lights, indicators, heater fan and "more ELO songs than you remember existing in the first place" CD are running, but that's OK.
