b230 fk engine not getting spark
as some people now ive done a engine conversion on my 360, it now has the 2.3t in it out the 940, its been in and running and been driven down the street, but the other day it randomly stopped getting spark, ive spent days trying to fix the problem with no luck so now i need some help as i have no idea about the electrical side of it? also if theres any auto electrician or volvo experts in the north west that could help i would obvs pay

Hmmm...I wonder?
I nearly had to scrap my 940 Sports a while back due to a similar (ish) problem. In my case the car would idle perfectly (problems will always vary a bit) but I would drive just 4 miles (every time) and suddenly..without any warning whatsoever..the car would stop dead...and not start for a couple of hours!..most un-nerving when crossing other roads etc. You name it,we did it, especially on the fuel side of things..and then electrical. The tank came off...fuel pipes too..new coil, I visited all of the local Volvo agents (utterly useless I have to say...sorry) . I then went to an Orwell crossing meet..where 'Mollusk' said..ignition amplifier...by the time I returned home..with a glimour of hope, 'Clan' had also come up with the same diagnosis. These two guy's saved my car!...I bought a used ignition amp/module for £15.00 (around £180.00 new!) and viola! I 'think' there are a number of way's an ingnition module breaking down may manifest itself. James |

If the fuel pump runs when you turn the key on, the white relay will be fine.
As James says, ignition power stage / amplifier failure is characterised by it conking out when not, not a total absence of spark. As I've said on V3M, you need to work through it logically. If all else fails, I may be coming to that part of the world to pick some stuff up in a few weeks, so I'd be willing to take a look at it...in exchange for some help with the fuel bill to get there if I'm successful cheers James

If you have the 940 loom try earthing the yellow/black wire from the ecu Pin 20 assuming you have LH 2.4 injection , i have had a few 940s where the ECU isnt earthing this wire internaly when ignition is turned on . This turns the fuel pump relay on through fuse 11/11 and 11/1 for both the fuel pumps and supplys the Lambda probe heater circuit .....

If you do decide to start again, don't throw the other loom away. I bet it's something simple...just a case of finding it! Once repaired, you could potentially sell the loom to someone else planning a conversion.
cheers James

yea if it is the loom im sure its something simple, i now when stripping the loom down i accidentaly cut through 3 wires(all in diffrent places), i properly repaired these 3 wires and the engine was still running when removed and ran when in the 360 so i dont think its that but worth a try, it did this a while bac and i played about with the white relay and it started getting spark again :s, was it you who made a loom for someone james?
cheers |
