2009 XC90 upgrade to factory Xenon from Halogen
Hello folks,
I have just purchased a 2009 Volvo XC90 after my 05 V70 finally became more of a burden than of use. The XC90 has Halogen lights, I would like to install complete factory Xenon units, mainly to upgrade the lighting but also for the aesthetics. After lots of searching I haven't found a definitive answer - can it be done without warning lights on the dash and or cutting up the wiring? Is it best to fit standard none active Xenon (facelift) or prefacelift? If anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I'm in West Sussex and have Volvo software reader, I can delete fault codes etc for folks if they need, just bring me a bacon sandwich. Thanks |

Did you get anywhere?
Hi, I am having the same problem, I have a 2006 XC90 with Halogen headlights but very scratched and dull, I have bought a new set of lights off a 2007 XC90 but they are the HiD type with the built in ballasts, the wiring seems to be the same, everything works except the low beam lights, is there something I am missing?

Volvos are swines for everything needed to be coded to the car. Im not sure if headlights are coded direct but they almost certainly wont accept a different headlight type without coding to that specification. Hope you get it sorted.

When changing from halogen to xenon:
Height sensor on rear axle needs to be installed because of automatic headlight height adjustment by the cem. Light switch module has to be swapped, manually to automatic, cem needs to be reprogrammed- halogen to xenon or abl xenon. |

Can be done but very technical - needs extra wires and sensors and switches, then the CEM hacking with a non-Volvo tool to change the factory config. Cannot be done via standard Volvo process.
