Default heavy steering... powersteering out?

2000 P80, powersteering worked perfectly and then one cold morning ( back in february ) the steering wheel felt really heavy, like if the car had no power steering. It would kinda have easy spots when turning the steering wheel. Self alignment is more or less gone. After the car has been driving for a while and everything is warm, it will clear up to some extend, but it never goes away. Fluid level is correct, no leaks.
The issue is there all the time, no matter how much I turn and what direction I am turning.

I'm expection the steering pump itself to have gone... what do you guys think?

Have you checked the fluid? it might just need topping up.
If OK then it looks like a new pump.

Default

fluid level is fine. Has never changed. There are no leaks. It seems it's a mechanical issue. Question is, is it the pump itself or the rack/pinion itself.

Just seems odd, that the whole thing should go bad overnight. More likely for a pump, i'd say.
