Bugger this sitting at home anxious to find out if they are there...ive got my maths exam this afternoon 2:00 - 3:30....im off from school to see if they are there. I wont be trying to find the owner just yet, but ill have a quick peak, take a couple of photos, and come home and report back....if they are still there and look half decent ill go back on sunday and try and find the owner.

Look forward to more info and pics steve, would love to know if they are in salvagable condition, and what sort of money is involved.

Right. Just got in from going there....sad news....the following pic explains...

My grandad took me there and when we realised they had gone I went a walk up the street to one of the local businesses, who knew nothing about them. When I walked back down towards the car my grandad was talking to someone in a car - a neighbor.

He said to basically just get back in your car and dissapear. The owner of the house had apparently done a runner....police are after him as he has apparently been up to some nasty things with a knife, put it that way.

While he has been gone, the 262s along with the other cars have been nicked. I suppose there would be a chance of finding them if i contacted the police and asked them to let me know if they found them, but im not risking getting involved.

Dissapointed Steve

Ah thats a shame they were so close as well, and someone has gone and nicked them! I wonder if it was someone on the forum as it was mighty coincidence that it was posted that they were there then a day or so later they were gone!

it may still be worth contacting the Police/Local Council as they often have arrangements with scrappys etc for the recovery/disposal of abandoned cars. A Volvo Breaker local to me (now sadly ceased trading) had an arrangement whereby he got any dumped/abandoned Volvos from the local area. As long as it's done legally and the original/legal owner informed by the Police of where the car has gone it's all above board and the cars will become yours after a set period of there's no reply.

Yes, but no doubt the cars have been vandalised or burnt out anyway.....or even scrapped already....

And lets be honest - its a 262c, probably rotten to by now and wayyy beyond my capabilities of restoring. If they had been there, for sale, and in not toooo bad nick, I would have considered it.

To be honest id rather not get into even trying to contact the mad man that owned them.

Steve

P.S By all means if anyone else wants to try and find/salvage them then by all means do it!

Yup, a friend whose son is heavily into banger racing told me that he has heard of 3 262's having been raced (& destroyed of course) this year so far.

He also regularly lets me read the latest "Wasted" magazine, and at the moment it seems that every page is adorned with pictures of Volvos being smashed to bits, especially 240's.

Apparently they are flavour of the month now that all the Granadas &Bluebirds have been destroyed and are consequently hard to get hold of. Won't be very long at this rate of destruction before 240's & 740's are a rare sight, no doubt banger apologists will protest at this but it's simple maths.

But anyone who is selling a cheap 240, especially on ebay, without a decent reserve, don't be surprised if it's torn to bits (everything chucked in a skip) painted up and then smashed to bits. (banger racers refer to this as "going out in one last blaze of glory" each to their own but I think Tony Blair would have been proud of this degree of flannel & spin!)

The banger racing debate has been done to death, but anyone who's selling any cheap Volvo & wants it to go to a good home BEWARE!
