My point entirely. If you're the sort that isn't going to watch over these issues, or even be aware of them, PCV, box etc etc, then definitely, definitely don't convert. Why would you?
These cars will do galactic miles. If maintained. My brother got rid of his at 420,000. Mine is at lunar levels too. But I watch it. You're lucky you got to 190. Do what most do, leave it, drive it till it stops. If you can't be bothered with a functioning keyboard in front of you, to look it up, or want others as yoru research fellow, your car won't make the miles to see a break-even, let alone a profit, anyway. Definitely, definitely don't convert.

I do try and do as much of my own maintenance as possible, and I don't believe in not asking for advice when things get beyond me. I'd rather consult the expert, and conversely, share my knowledge if I can help! |

They are just a bit backwards and the electronics are a bit clunky. The injectors are good but a bit noisey, vapourisers are ok.
The main think for me is the lack of flexibility of the systems Here is the kit have http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=214057 it is now removed, very flexible on price |

Rats!! Bloody windscreen has just cracked, so there goes the majority of the LPG budget. Thanks for the offer, Classicswede, but finances have put the kibosh on this one.

You should be able to get screen replaced on your insurance. Should only cost you £70 or so and won't affect your no claims.

CNGBiFuel,
Why so nasty? He asked a simple question. I also have never heard of a 'poisoned gearbox' on a manual and I have been on the forums and others for a long time. FWIW, I have a BRC conversion on my 850 T5. I have done over 60,000 miles on it since conversion and did my sums beforehand on how many miles it would take to get the money back. Like the poster, I intend to keep mine for many years as I know its provenance, so, if he knows that car, can do the mileage, wants to keep it, let him convert it. Why do you say its a clunker? I have 210,000 miles on mine and it still pulls like a train on LPG and all at less than 60P per litre. Yes its only about £1800 in value but its maintaining that value and to get a car with an equivalent level of comfort and performance, I would need to spend a hell of a lot more and sods law, then after 6 months have another big bill to repair some hidden fault. ChristoT. If you know the car well and are confident in its overall condition, go for it. I would recommend a professional conversion as the mapping will be important. The guy who did mine refused to agree until he had checked over the car first. he also spent a long time driving it with me in the passenger seat with his laptop, changing values. I have not looked back. |
