v70d clutch or something else?
Hello - any advice appreciated (my mechanical knowledge is very basic!) - driving our 59 reg v70 manual 2.0d on country roads in somerset last few days we felt a loss of power/slower than usual acceleration/low revs in 2nd and 4th gear (maybe all lower gears, not sure) - after 2 hr motorway drive with no issues- then 30 minutes on some tricky country lanes and this happened plus a burning/hot metal smell at the end of the journey.
The next morning, car was fine again for first 25 minutes then again a loss of acceleration and slight burning/hot metal smell. Got RAC out and they had a look and drove car from cold for 5 minutes but couldn't find the issue - he tried to slip the clutch but couldn't. No issues on 2hr motorway drive back home. No warning messages, no sign of car overheating...any ideas? Could the clutch be on the way out? Gears changing easily. It was hard to tell about the loss of power because there were 30 speed limits everywhere but we've done plenty of country driving in the past and not had this, or the smell.. |

a hot burning smell can be the normal particle filter regeneration..

The revs were staying low/only going up after a much longer than normal delay after putting foot down (car's always been sluggish compared to my old d5).

ok well that is not the clutch slipping just a loss of engine power.. The stored fault codes need reading from the car to guide you on the way to a cause.. is there a fault light on in the dash?

no didn't notice any fault lights/warning messages - could this all be down to the DPF regenerating? If the dpf were blocked would I have had problems at higher speeds?

Next step is get the codes read and see if there are any stored. when was the fuel filter last changed? They have to be changed every other service.

update : garage found the issue - two calipers need replacing, this also explains some juddering we had been experiencing, which I had thought was down to unbalanced wheels and different brand front and rear tyres
