New Alternator
Hi All,
I have gone through two "refurbished" alternators in the last year. Just wondering if anyone knows if an organisation still makes them new as refurbished aren't lasting long. Any advice greatly appreciated. Regards |

Refurbished is just another word for recycled, with a wipe down and check.
It is possible to get alternators rewound, and new bearings and components fitted, which is what Remanufacturing should entail, but caveat emptor, unless you do it yourself or take it to a reputable rewinder I doubt many "remanufactured" alternators are truely that, because it's not cheap. |

In about 400,000 miles of driving Volvo 240s I have only once had an alternator fail, and that just needed the brushes replacing. It's very cheap and very easy.
What is it that keeps going wrong with yours? |

Do you have an Auto Electrical Ctr? nearby?
Alternators & Dynamos generally have a descent life span:~ The above shops should be able to sort out any problems or give advice. Good Luck Bob. Last edited by Bob Meadows; Feb 14th, 2022 at 17:39. |
