MY 240 DRIVES ME!

it"s an old car!..Get over it!!!
Hi all 240 people!!..I have no complaints about my tough as old boots 240 DL..key in..pull away..job done!..but he is fragile..(i say he because it means that i do not have to explain myself!!)..HE is at the mercy again of exhaust fitters and tyre people!..a certain well known outlet for all exhaust fittings past straight pipe..£278.00..a mugging is in progress!!..Hold that thought..lets nip around the corner to another well known more industrial and plant fitters situation.. and low and behold its eighty smackers cheaper!!..The language is richer..there is violence in the forecourt..now i"m not saying that i should expect things for nothing..I"m all for the working person..i"m one meself..but when you drive in to these hornets nests the vibe changes..the radio switches to high noon..modern runarounds look inconsequential..tumbleweed sort of does its thing..(if its windy)..The tutting ensues..The mumbling..then the fingers on computer keyboards play a tune of despair and say!.."hmmm..one more hmmm..We can have it here by the time your kids wheel you into the happy home!!..ok says i...Just shy of £200.00....Oh i wish i had my own garage!!..Then its a trip to to the stealers for dizzy. rotor.cambelt...(tensioner bearing still too dear for my liking)..front pads..rear pads..oil filter..are they ate or girling rears?..i"m sure they are girlings..you better be sure says the little parts man..or you will be destroyed!!..The point i"m trying and possibly failing to put across is..the joy of having an older car in the modern world..we are at the tipping point of having something that people envy..(i should know i do this every few years)..saying all that folks, the more well known outlet were very complimentary about my bus..though most were obviously banger racers!..oh how i hate coming to town!!..cheers hj.

I'm lucky. My local independent likes working on my machine and calls it "proper engineering, non of this modern electronic ****". It's with him at the moment. He's had 2 different people come by and ask if they can buy it!!......

+2! That's more or less what the chap who looks after my 740 says about it.
Mind you, his hobby project is a stream traction engine.

The quality of after market exhaust parts are pretty poor these days and that is why I only bother with the heavy gauge stainless systems. A bit more expensive to start with a massive saving in the long run.

The thing that annoys me with every Motor factor i use now is they always want the registration to put in their Computer for searching, yet i've still been given the wrong part on more than a few occasions. Its even more frustrating when the engine is from a totally different car, i.e my Williams powered 340 really confuses them!

I had the throttle cable snap on the torslanda. an older AA patrol man came out to me, he was delighted to work on it. "a proper car, is this. you want to hang onto it, none of this electronic nonsense they have on the new ones"
which sums up how I feel too. |
