Question 440 1994 Automatic Transmission ZF 4 HP 14

Hello every one.

I am new to this forum and have not found any topic about the following.

My 440 1998 cc year 1994 has the automatic transmission ZF4 HP14.

It has worked beautifully until suddenly a visit to the supermarket.
Without any previous hesitation or notice, the reverse gear is dead.
All gears forward are excellent, but no reverse. I guess it is an internal brake that should block the planetary gear in order to make it spin backwards.

The car is in a very good condition and it would be a sad story to have to scrap it.
The price for a new gear box is out of question.
on the internet I have found replacements for around 150 pound, but don' know how much work is involved in the change.
I am used to mechanical car work, but do not have any other place to do it than in the street.

Can anyone give me some ideas what the problem could be.
I have added an anti-slip fluid, but no change. "LUCAS automatic transmission fix"

Hope that someone can give me an advice.
