Noisy power steering (no faults, no creaks)
Our 2017 V40 has just started making a noise when steering at low speed or stationary, including with the engine off, ignition on.
Its not creaking or jerky, hard to describe so I've added a video. Its a bit like the sound made when you drag a mug across a table! There are also no fault lights. I've jacked up each front wheel one at a time and the noise is still there, and I can't see any obviously wrong when looking behind the wheels. It recently had new inner and outer track rods as they were seized, followed by tracking, but has done a few hundred miles since. The garage that did the track rods initially assumed there was play in the rack as they have apparently had a few in with that problem that had the racks reconditioned, but they didn't suggest there was anything wrong with this one. Its not my daily driver as its my wife's, but sometimes I think the steering is heavier than it should be at low speed...has been for a while though. I know the electric steering is shared with the Ford Focus and its known for issues but I've not found any threads with similar symptoms to mine. (the creaking in the video is just my hand on the wheel!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSPLgLXvvIc Last edited by Spookyb329; Feb 18th, 2024 at 18:46. |
