Tempted to clean the EGR? Just do it!
Folks,
I cleaned my EGR today. It took 45 mins from start to finish (including the cleaning). All you need are: 10mm spanner or sockets Flat head screw driver Some petrol or carb cleaner Some rags and a vacuum cleaner. To remove the mixer is the sum total of 4x10mm bolts, 3 x jubilee clips and some brute force. Clean the mixer in petrol and CAREFULLY remove crud from the EGR valve inlet ( I did it with a vacuum cleaner ). My mixer was about 20% blocked, but the port into the EGR valve itself was about 40% full of crud. A quick test drive shows a massive improvement in smoothness and willingness to rev and I bet theres going to be a decent economy improvement too - time will tell. If you are undecided about whether to do this - just crack on! Its dead easy, costs nothing and theres very little scope to make a hash of it. As I mentioned; just be careful not to poke any crud in to the inlet or EGR valve itself.
