onion2 New Member Last Online: Nov 2nd, 2011 22:26 Join Date: Oct 2011 Location: Dublin	1.6D S40 black smoke/soot Hello everyone, Have a problem with my 2005 S40 1.6D, 83K on the clock, any help appreciated. Heavy black smoke from the exhaust, almost soot like on the ground after startup. Also upon acceleration there is heavy smoke and the engine stumbles a lot. Engine idles roughly too, but not on all occasions. The EGR valve has been replaced not too long ago, approx 3k miles. This problem has been occurring only recently. Any suggestions on what I could check myself before bringing it to a mechanic? Thanks a mil.
