Interoir trim and seats removal query
All,
My '94 855 T5 failed it's MOT earlier this week on two splits in the floor pans. I suspect due to when my wheels were stolen last year, and the b*st*rds left it on breeze blocks under the sills ! I am entrusting the welding to my sensible local garage but will be preparing the car myself as I cant afford £00s for them to remove the trim, carpets, seats etc. Any top tips out there before I break all the plastic clips etc ? I don't appear to have explosive seats/belts but are there any SIPS issues I should be aware of ? Many thanks in advance Steve |

RE: Interoir trim and seats removal query
Hi steve,
if you have amy94 you should have the pyrotechnical belts. One way to check down by your side do you have on your belt soctket a plastic sheeve that is concertina shaped and a small adjustable lock? Also if you pull from the top of the trim on the B piller slowly until out. If you see a metal cable attached to a long cylinder and the pyto. the other i mentioned is a mechanical tensioner. As for trim if you start at one end and take your time everthing should come out easily. For the carpet is one piece unless its been replaced within its life. To do this the front seats need to come out as well as the centre console. then the side trims and luft lift the rear seat up a bit and it should come out if i recall. Lastly if you do have the pyrotechnics juzsr disconnect the battery first :-) been there, done it...

RE: Interoir trim and seats removal query
Thanks for your wise words ...
I actually did the whole job this morning in around an hour - a lot easier than I was expecting! It's going for the welding tomorrow - I'll investigate the pyrotechnics on re-assembly ... So what's this SIPS all about then ? and should my garage beware of anything during the repair (it's been jacked up on the floor pans directly inboard of the proper jacking point - resulting in heavy local deformation and 4" tears in the metalwork ... AGGHHHH !) Brgds Steve |

Hi Steve,
from what i understand the SIPS (Side Impact Protection System)is the extra piece of metal molded into the corner of the door frame (on the bodyshell, has SIPS etched into it), with gives a bit more bracing for the shell on side impact. I always thought it was side airbags until i found i've only got a bag in the steering wheel. |
