Is it the mechanical latch or more likely the hall sensor ? You cant do anything if it is the hall sensor ..

Unhappy

This is my first post so please let me know if I'm doing something wrong. I bought a 2006 C70 convertible about 8 months ago and I hadn't had any problems with the convertible roof until last month. The lid opens and the top goes down fully into the trunk but now the lid won't close and I get the message as roof failure refer to manual which tells me nothing. I'm a bit confused since the lid has no problems opening and closing without the roof down. Any suggestions?

As you might expect , this is a very complex roof with 17 sensors and a hydraulic pump and various hydraulic rams ..So a specialist job , The fault codes need reading on a dealer's VIDA diagnostic machine and they need interpreting to find out in which area the fault is .
It will probably be a sensor fault BUT it is most likely a broken wire in the loom near a point where it bends when the roof goes up and down . Don't let them just change a sensor without checking the two wires for correct signals first!

Default 2008 C70 Roof problems!!

Good Afternoon, I hope you can help me! My 2008 C70 has the same roof problems. The mechanics changed the hall sensor and while they were doing that burnt out the Hydraulic motor, so we got a new one, which they installed. They had the car for 9 WEEKS and finally just put the top up and gave it back to me not working. I am going to try to take it to another mechanic and am looking for some suggestions as to what they should look for. I don't mind putting the top up & down manually but can't seem to find instructions. PS - I am in the Cayman Islands...

There's not a manual up and down function... only a one-time put it back up and now you're driving an overweight coupe with a massive trunk until the dealership fixes it...

VIDA will enable you to read out the sensor positions, has a spreadsheet that shows you what they should be, and wiring diagrams to give you pointers as to what is going wrong with it... but you need a purpose built breakout box to diagnose issues with the CRM - only available to dealers
