Unhappy XC60 recharge battery mileage

3days ago I took delivery of an XC60 Recharge ( after a wait of 7 months) 2022 edition.

Now I know the mileage on electric only isn’t what is quoted on the official figure but I am only getting 10 miles on a full charge. 1st time I took it out to test it was 8C outside, I had the climate control set to 19C and ran it on Pure mode just to see what it would do, after a 9 mile journey the battery was at 0%. I recharged when home to full and the next day did a 20 mile trip on Hybrid mode. The battery drained to 0 after 9 miles. Later that day I needed to make a short trip and the battery hadn’t fully charged was at 60% after 5 miles again it had drained again in Hybrid mode. Today it was fully charged showing a range of 21 miles available, I did a quick trip at night ( 2 miles) and by the time I got home the battery was 25% depleted showing 13 miles range left.

I am a light footed driver. Surely I should be getting more than 10 miles on a full charge. It’s booked in to be looked at next January. What mileage are you guys getting?

Its going to be at it's worst right now with heating and lighting needed , heated screens, heated seats the main batteries have a heating/cooling system which needs power too . hopefully the hybrid system will save you quite a bit of fuel for the petrol engine though .

When I called the dealer he said he had an XC60 recharge and even in the winter he was getting 25 miles plus , I didn’t have the lights on, or the heated seats. It seems as if I have half capacity battery, it’s an 18KW battery and the 3 pin plug lead I have only charges at 3kw/h and it’s only taking 3 hours to “fully charge” it really as if I only have a 9KW battery.

There has to be something wrong Nigel - I have the 11.6kw battery and even in colder weather than you are describing I get more miles than you are.
The only reason I can think of that might make the difference is having the petrol heater in my car but I would be very surprised if you were getting a worse range than me just because it is using the battery for heating especially when bearing in mind the much increased capacity.
Have you been preconditioning?

What range are you getting? I’d like to get some comparisons.

More like 25 - mostly on motorways but some country lanes.
Caveat that most of the motorway driving is level or downhill.

Of course I only have an 11.6 KW battery, no idea why I thought it was 18 Kw.

At the moment, with careful driving, I can get about 15 miles on Pure mode. It’s flipping cold so heater and heated seats are always on.

It’s not great, but about what I expected.

Hi all. I’m very interested in this thread. I took delivery of a MY22 XC60 T8 in August. From the start, I typically got 21 miles from the battery, in hybrid mode. Shortly after the 1.7 software upgrade, that dropped off a cliff - down to between 8 and 10 miles. My dealer has had it in twice. Most recently, overnight. He told me he managed 20+ miles off a full charge. Yet when I got it back, there was no change. He will get it back again in the New Year. I started off very pleased with the car. Now, not so much.

Interesting the software upgrade affected the range.

Since I posted I’ve been experimenting, last 2 days I had to make a trip to the hospital, it’s a 30 mile round trip. Day 1 I left the car in Hybrid mode. After 9 miles the battery had run out, it appears to use nothing except the battery ( no it’s not in pure mode, definitely hybrid) so obviously on the rest of the journey it used just fuel, by the end of the trip I got an average of 46mpg.

Next day I did the identical trip but this time whenever I was just cruising or going downhill I switched to “hold charge” to force the car to use the petrol engine. I was constantly doing this the whole journey. After the 30 miles the battery was still drained but my mpg was 82.

So it looks like I have to man manage the hybrid mode. I assumed that’s what the auto hybrid was supposed to do. But watching it, it seems atm to almost be in pure mode all the time despite me selecting auto hybrid.

Both days above the outside temp was about 5c and the heating was set to 19 auto. No heated seats on.
