Default Volvo S90 Road noise through tyres

I've recently purchased a Vovo S90 subscription with 9,000 miles on the clock.I'm absolutely delighted with the car but I'm surprised at the amount of road noise though the tyres ( a sort of rumbling sound ) which isn't there on my other car, a 2016 V70 and my previous car, a Skoda Superb ( 2016 ).

The S90 is fitted with the original 245/45 R18 Primacy 3 tyres. Any thoughts, comments from other members, particularly if this problem can be overcome?

Default Noise

In my experience all SPA cars suffer the same problem.

The taller tyred variants suffer slightly less but they all do it.

The car would be just awesome if Volvo fixed this. It spoils an otherwise brilliant car.

I think the monocoque has thin panels that resonate and vibrate very easily. I don't think this is road roar per se - it is vibration coming right through the wheels to the chassis. Bring back sub frames!

Question

That size tyre and not Continental it’s very strange for it to have loud roar. Of course noise will be louder on summer tyres in cold conditions but still for someone to complain on 18in something is not right. Is wear ok? Also check if wear is even - if not likely problems with pressure, balancing, alignment, suspension. Check pressure - pop into a couple of petrol station ones as retail gauges are usually wildly inaccurate. Could be wheel balancing problems - pop into a local tyre shop and have them rebalance for you. If all those fail need to do more expensive investigation- take it to have wheel alignment checked. Could be shot suspension - have that checked.

My V90 doesnt really suffer from any real road noise on the 18 inch Pirelli’s.

It does have an annoying rattle from near the glove box though.

I recently swapped from a BMW 520 to a new V90 and one of the things I noticed straight away was how much noisier it was in the cabin. The engine is noisier at low speeds and then at national speed limit type speeds it is tyre noise that takes over. The first time I made a call using the hands free the recipient (who I call regularly from the car) noted that the call quality wasn't as good as the BMW which was possibly due to the cabin noise also.🤷*♂️

The engine may be a bit quieter now it's done a couple of thousand miles possibly but it's hard to tell for sure obviously.
