Default Oil Filter stuck

Currently trying to replace the oil filter. The current oil filter is on really tight and the part it’s connected to (the oil cooler I think?) is just spinning with it. Any tips?

This picture might help

I think you may have to try and hold onto the part that the hoses attach to to get it off

I only ever put mine on by hand which is always tight enough

Ok cheers griston I’ll try removing the lower hoses on that insert and then taking both off together.

The last owner obviously didn’t know not to use tools when fitting the filter.

Depending on the condition of the hoses it might be worth replacing with new ones and also the rubber o ring on the oil cooler ( number 5 )

If the cooler is spinning then the seal will be knackered (number 5 like Mark said) and the big bolt (number 8) that goes through it will be loose too I imagine.

The best oil filter pliers I've used are these from Halfords

The filter only needs to be put on hand tight and you should use a genuine Volvo one as it has a non return valve to prevent oil starvation on cold startup.
