tdi info
Hi guys. i would love to do abit of tuning to my 850 tdi but i cant find much, ive found bits and pieces but not a start to finish prodject or a step by step etc. I would love to find some info i could have a good read through so i can deside how far i want to go and which parts to find. i have an auto and its only done 63k with most service history and is in very good nick for its age so the last thing i want to do is start going mad with head skimming and changing rods etc im just thinking 200-250bhp dpending on the cost it will be to get there.
Any info would be useful apart from things like "sell it and get an R etc" as the car is exactly what i wanted i just want to give it more performance" Thanks a lot |

I would have a look at a remap or good tuning box first, i had a van aaken tuning box on my tdi when i bought it and it was easily as fast if not quicker than a standard T5.

From what I understand, what your looking for is achievable with a bit of tuning, turbo swap and an exhaust setup. I think the stock internals on this engine are good for a lot more power than your suggesting.

At last another member with similar plans to me! I put mine on the rollers last month with just a plug in box and egr removal, the result was 170 bhp and 270 ft/lb. Dyno chart is in diesel section somewhere. Now since then I have fitted bigger nozzles to get even more fuel in but as you can imagine there was lots of smoke due to a lack of air! So on goes a 3 bar MAP, boost now holds (after a few tricks) at 18psi, resulting in no more smoke than standard. Unfortunately the kkk k14 turbo turns into a bit of a hot air blower at a constant 18psi so either a more efficient intercooler is needed or a bigger turbo (probably going to whack an 18t on her first see how it goes) but probably both.
Dyno on saturday showed promise, 207bhp and 300+ ft/lb but my 125k mile clutch couldn't take it anymore! So now on order is a much better clutch capable of handling the extra power. Hopefully with a better turbo and a few more tricks It will be even better! Hope this helps
