Default Sensus Connected Touch on XC60

Hi all,

Am new here and first posting may be me being a bit thick! I've just taken delivery of a 2014 XC60 SE LUX. I added the 7" upgraded sound, which I assumed was the sensus touch.

But this isn't a touch screen, so can't find spotify or any of the other apps other than tunein radio.

Have I been a bit dumb, is the connected touch extra above the £500 I just paid?

Confused!

'Fraid so - what you have is the Sensus connect

I think you may also find that it is a bit more than £500

Sorry to be the bear of bad tidings, but welcome aboard - you will get the answers to your questions from the people here!

I suspect that you have also got a better sound system also, perhaps the high performance audio? Did this also provide you DAB radio?

The SCT would bring you iGo navigation, it is actually a rebadged Parrot product, whereas the SC Nav is provided by Here which is what used to be Nokia Maps and Navteq.

I presume that you have not upgraded to Nav version?

From what I can gather from my car buying research , spotify and the other apps will be available as a software upgrade to your system from May, wether there is an associated cost with that isn't known yet.All new cars delivered from may will have the latest apps software pre installed, not sure if that also applies to the smaller 5inch screen version, what I can't get an answer on is if the new cars will come with the touch screen.

They will get the touch screen if you upgrade to SCT otherwise you will get the plain SC.

I have to admit to being ever so slightly miffed. Had I known what I was getting I wouldn't have shelled out £500! The car is fantastic and otherwise really chuffed, but kind of takes the edge off.

The brochure lists "access to a range of apps", but I only appear to have tunein radio. I wonder if something is missing. I'll call the dealer tomorrow morning.

I made a similar mistake, thinking my order (which hasn't arrived yet) comes with connected touch if I upgraded to premium sound. However, volvo uk told me that the sensus connect will come with all the features of the current connected touch (apart from the touchscreen bit) with the upgrade in May (such as spotify) so hold fire until then. I wouldn't spend £1000 on the upgrade as it probably isn't worth it just to get full functionality three months earlier than you will otherwise get. Shame your dealer didn't know this already although there appesrs to be a lot of confusion over this particular issue.

This is why I ask the question. When I read the brochure and the online information........it appears to me that the upgrade to Premium Sound & a 7" screen brings with it Sensus Connect. That's what appeared on the order confirmation when I asked the dealer to upgrade my sound system.

So I ask myself......connect to what? Sensus is, I believe, simply the car talking to itself and the interface by which the driver can customise the on-board car settings. But connect........my research leads me to believe that you get all the connection functionality of SCTouch but without the touch screen. I can live without the touchscreen.

If I am correct then, having spent the £X to upgrade to premium sound because I wanted the sound system, it appears I might be getting a heap of unexpected bonus functionaility thrown into the deal? For what it's worth, the review site below doesn't consider the connectivity to be a surefire hit but, as a no-cost add-on in my case, one wouldn't reject it!

Am I in the right ballpark or way off the mark?

What's the view out there in Volvo Forum Land?

Arianne

I think wimorrison is the man with the knowledge on Sensus Connect as I believe he has been testing his.

All I know is that the Sensus connect will have all the functionality of the connected touch (less touch screen) in May so there won't be a whole heap of difference between them although you do need the 7 inch screen version for all the more interactive stuff (although you can upgrade from 5 inch).

Dare not say any more than that for fear of misinformation although I understand that dealers have had some training in the last few days on the connected touch upgrade due for May. So, they might be able to provide greater clarity. Incidentally, the May upgrade for full functionality of connect will need to go to the dealer for software download.

Thanks for the petrolblog review. I do feel guilty not sharing this one (like you have with all yours) as I did happen across this in November before joining the Forum. Yet another good review although he's concerned you might kerb your fancy 20" alloys! I, on the other hand, am not brave enough (or rich enough) to take that risk and have gone for the standard factory fits.
