Default looking for an amazon

Hi,I'm new and in the process of travelling round looking for an amazon saloon to buy,has anyone any tips or advice for me,I've read through the buyers info that i could find and as a result walked away from a 65 122s with overdrive that on first impressions looked excellent but as a result of the info I've found turned out not as good as it looked-so thank you all so far you've saved me from a lemon,my budget is 1500 at the mo but I'm hoping to make that up to 2500
I also found this on the web which is the kind of look I want to aim for:

(hope the link is ok)
thanks and regards
Alex

Hi & welcome!

You may have seen this already but I've been slowly writing an Amazon buyers guide (click here) which I hope will be of use.

If you have any queries about what to watch out for, please don't hesitate to ask!

The maxim "spend as much as you can afford" doesn't always run true. I've seen £2500 cars with just as many potential rust issues as £1500 cars but perhaps with a nicer paint job. Golden rule is check everywhere and take someone with you who knows the cars well, if possible.

Usually you would be looking at 3000+ for a really good one that needs hardly any work. It really depends on whether you want a 'keeper' or just something to run around in for a year. If you get a rusty example for a low price you may end up spending a lot more at MOT time, so you could have spent that money buying a car in better structural condition.

That being said, I'm sure there are some well-cared for cars that are scruffy but not MOT failures that you could get for less money.

Good luck with your search.

Tom

thanks for the replies guys I've looked at two so far one was very shiny but a bit doggy underneath and both rear and front screens were leaking,I've looked for screen leak fixes but all I seem to find are posts that say it's a bugger to do and no how to's,
I want to buy one that i can keep for a long time and rust is my main worry I'm no stranger to electrics or mechanics but welding is not my own forte,
I can paint so dulled tatty paint is not a worry either,I would also like a fairly decent interior as i'm guessing that interior parts will be hardest to source/expensive to refurbish.
I don't want much do Ihttps://www.volvoforums.org.uk/images/icons/icon7.gificon11.gif
I'll keep looking and hopefully I'll find a good one soonish

Hello Alex and welcome. I can honestly say that buying an Amazon was one of the best moves I ever made. Its a really great car to own that drives well, is reliable and looks great.........as long as you buy a good one that is. You were right in walking away from the '65. Take your time and reap the benefits. Like you I also love the two tone fifties look and am seriously considering giving my '70 131 a white roof to go with its red body. Best of luck with the hunt.
Hugh.

I have an Amazon 122S with overdrive, 4 door 1967, blue/blue. It's not a 'pretty' car, but sound and solid, the previous owner had it for a very long time and garaged it. £2500

Still looking guys
Have seen one on ebay reg.no.FEB 890 D
Does anyone know this car all I can find out up to yet is that in the advert it says it's had new brakes and "shiny new filters" and I've also found that it sold at auction not too long ago for around 400 quid,(listed in one of this months classic mags as an auction bargain)
The seller wants £1799 I don't mind paying this if it's a decent car but it's 125miles away from me (I'm near Nottingham) and any info that may save me a wasted trip is good info.
please reply by pm if it's bad news as I don't want to cause anyone problems with public info I just want to find a decent amazon
thanks
(hope I'm not breaking any forum rules asking for this kind of info)
