V90 B4 "freewheel/coasting"?
Hi, I have a 2022 B4 petrol. My previous (D4) V90 used to have a coasting/freewheel mode where by when you took your foot off the throttle the rev counter would drop right down as if it were in neutral. My current B4P doesn't do this so I assumed it was a "diesel only" thing.
Yesterday I had an XC40 B3 petrol courtesy car and noticed that is also did the same as my previous D4, coasting saw the rev counter drop and the green "A" next to it illuminated. On my V90 the revs only drop and the green "A" illuminates when I come to a stop and the engine cuts. Should my V90 mirror the XC40 I drove? The difference I can see is that my V90 DOESN'T have Pilot Assist but my previous D4 and the XC40 demonstrator both did have it. |

I have a V90 B4 petrol, and no, it doesn’t freewheel - I think the dct gearboxes they have put in some of the newer V60’s and other cars ( V60 thing of the past now) do have that facility, but not the 8 speed in our V90’s.
Don’t think I’d like that happening anyway!

1. Freewheel and the A symbol. Do you mean when when in Eco mode?
2. I thought all V90’s came with Pilot assist as standard. My 2021 B4 RDesign certainly does and so did previous D4 RDesign

The mild hybrid will activate the sops/start system when about to stop (I.e just before actually stopping when braking the system shuts the engine down) - freewheeling is definitely not included in the drivetrain for the AAOS V90’s with the 8 speed auto boxes

The XC40 and V60 B3 and B4 from sometime in 2022 use a dual clutch automated manual DCT gearbox - both these cars go into coast and the engine switches off totally until you touch the pedal.
None of the other cars do it - for example I had a 2023 S60 B5 as a courtesy recently which did not do it as it had the traditional torque converter gearbox, just like your V90. I believe the DCT can't take the torque of the diesel engine or the petrols beyond a certain power output. To be completely honest, the torque converter box is far smoother moving off from rest having driven both extensively. The DCT gearbox is certainly more fuel efficient though.
