S60 D5 CSC Slave failure - who to fix it?
Hi,
I'm new to the forum. Just had my 2005 D5 S60 CSC go on me. I'm guessing that given the work to get to it, it's gonna be a friction plate and DMF whilst they'e in there. Q1. Not sure which engine code to use [D5244T7, D5244T, B5244T3, B5244T5, B5244S, B5244S2] Q2. Anyone know a good indie in the Essex / Herts area? I've seen the list but I'm not sure how up to date it is It's currently in the carpark outside the office, so want it sorted ASAP. Any advice as to who to use to get it sorted, where to get parts [currently These guys looks best or any other sage advice, greatly received. Cheers Ade |

Not familiar with garages in your neck of the woods I'm afraid but in answer to Q1, seeing as your car is a D5, it'll be one of the engine codes starting with..........D5
Not sure which one though, as your year is on the cusp of engine changes from Euro 3- Euro 4/163-185 bhp. Any decent parts supplier will tell you if you give your reg no.

Yeah, blinding fail on my part re engine codes. It's the 185 if that makes things more defined.

Mine is the 163 and is a D5244T, so yours will be the one with extra digits.
Yours still MAY not be the other one in your list though as I'm sure I've seen another D5 code before. There's a 163 Euro 3 and 4 and a 185 Euro 4.

On a 2005 it could be choice of 3,
Does it have a 5 or 6 speed gearbox?? If its 5 its a D5244T If its 6 it could be either D5244T (euro3), or D5244T4 163Bhp, D5244T5 185bhp (Euro4 DPF engines)

D5244T5 it is then. 185 E4 DPF 6 speed model.
Cheapest I've found for LUK kit is 230. So need a decent independent to fit it. Seems as though book time is 6 hours. What are most indies charging per hour these days? Normally done all my own work, but never a clutch. |

There will be a sticker on the timing cover to say which engine it is.
When mine went I had mine done at the main dealer, they checked DMF etc and said like new as well as friction plate @ 100k. So just changed the slave and friction plate on my request. The DMF is expensive might be worth checking before you shell out? Labouring the engine is what puts wear on them and so if you do a lot of motorways / and are normally in the correct gear no reason why it won't be in good condition. |
