Some marques run a register for specific models which give a reasonable clue as to how many of that particular type are still around. It may be a little early to do this with the 200 series? Not sure. I guess that there are still a lot being used by non VOC/Volvo enthusiasts so any kind of info from the owners will no be forthcoming. Makes me wonder as to when you do set up a register - when the model becomes a classic? And how do you know when its a classic? Im off to the garden centre now as my brain is beginning to hurt.........

Hi,
I would have though that after 20 years since the last cars rolled off the production line would be a reasonable point for the car being "classic". Earlier models would already be classic and be getting rare... The data should be easily pulled from DVLA records though. Maybe they would charge for the info. And it may be that they would only entertain the request from an official body (Volvo UK or maybe VOC?).. Des. . .

I would hope that this sort of information is available under the freedom of information act. Off to DVLA website to find out.

That was the easy bit.
I've just downloaded a FOI request form, will post it later see what we get. I'll ask for general 200 series info and also ask for a breakdown into specific models. Looking at current V5 forms they should be able to give us a breakdown of year, model number, estate/saloon, engine size and possibly colour. I suspect this might be asking a bit much but one can only try. Do we have any forum or VOC members who work at DVLA, a nudge from inside the system could be useful. |

Numbers coming.
I have received a letter, and now in email contact with a very helpful chap at DVLA. It seems that Freedom of Information requests are best coming from an individual as they have a duty to reply. He is preparing the data for me on 200 series and will send it as an Excel document, from which we can then extract the information we require, ie model, colour, engine etc.

On reading through the email from DVLA it seems the chap meant that requests for information from organisations such as owners clubs are more efficiently handled when channelled through a nominated individual: They have a duty to provide info regardless of whether requests come from individuals or groups.

Hi,

So anyone nominated by the VOC (like the register keepers for example) can happily request the data from DVLA..? It may be worth this being done for all Volvo models to have up to date info on numbers etc.. Des. . .
