True, just don't let them build it.

Would you trust them with £20-£25k though. Better but not up to the standards that are expected now. Give the designs to another company to actually build, one that has a solid reputation, and sales would rocket. Imagine for example that Audi took them into the VW/Audi empire and some German engineers took control of production. The Germans would be banned from the design process but allowed to mfr it. As per the initial point the Italians design beautiful cars.

Yup. Significantly better than Alfas of recent times but still not up there with the better equivalent cars in their class. I also know many people who have had Alfa's and they never went back for a second. Loved the styling but could not live with them long term. Equally I am well aware that they have very loyal followers, you pay your money your take your chance.
I am not condemning Alfa's, they are clearly not the disaster zones of the 70's, 80's and 90's. They have just not made enough of a leap for me to take a punt with them. I'm sure they'll not lose sleep over it.

Gothenburg City in Sweden bought a number of Italian street cars in the beginning of 2000 (http://www.goteborgdaily.se/trams-rust-alarms-ignored) Recently 38 of the first batch of 40 of the street cars were found to have serious rust problems and had to be taken out of traffic... In addition it took the Italian firm years to deliver the original 40. |
