Default HID Xenon Fitting Advice / Experience

Hi Guys,

Have bought the Volvo s60 D5 54 reg as per my previous thread.

I want to install HID xenon kit on the lights (kits on ebay for around £45)

Will fitting of these lights cause any problems or warning lights to show, as it is my undertanding that these HID bulbs take less power.

Were these kits easy to fit?

Im thinking og going for the 55w

Guess it might be a bit late now, but Ill tell you anyway. These cars have got a Canbus system, so if you are going to get a kit, make sure its compliant with this. Basically, a large majority of HID kits are only 35w, which registers in the Canbus system as a bulb failure, since its not pulling the full 55w.
I can assume if you buy a 55w kit, this wouldnt happen, or get a 35w Canbus compliant kit, and you should be fine.
Sorry we couldnt help earlier

Bas

Waste of time mate- as of 2012 MOT regs are changing and cars with HID fitted to them must also have auto height levelling adjustment (not manual control from a switch in the car) and have headlamp wash. It's an MOT check so your car will fail without these 2 things.

So to do this you must fit all components- e.g. a Xenon system from donor car. It's a headache.

The eBay kits are in fact a doddle to fit- I've done 2 now, but both will fail new MOT.

This is incorrect.

Rather than me bother to try and explain it, it's easier to link to this post.

Actually, that thread is incorrect, and misleading, and often quoted on the net.

The MOT test is changing in 2012, and the wording quoted in that thread is outdated.

The original post is incorrect, yes. The rest of the thread explains why it is wrong. Read the MOT testers manual that the post I referred to quotes, it explains quite clearly that auto levelling and washers will only be tested if they are fitted.

What is going to happen to cars with FACTORY fitted HIDs with no washers or auto levelling? Are they going to be failed too?
