Hi All,
Traditional cruise control allows you to set a speed and the car maintains this for you. I have seen a nice feature on Mercedes in the past where you can set a maximum speed and drive the car on the throttle so you don't exceed a speed limit. Does anyone know if the XC70 has the feature of setting a maximum speed? Thanks Paul |

The new V40's do, I do find it rather odd though. Normal cruise control is perfectly easy to use.

Not sure what you are on about "you can set a maximum speed and drive the car on the throttle so you don't exceed a speed limit." What would be the point of using the throttle when you have the cruise control on??
I had cruise control on my Mercedes and it was a bit off putting, I would set it at 82mph on the autoroutes (130kph as we used to live in France) but when we were going downhill with the cruise control on and the speed exceeded 82mph the auto box would change down to slow the car down and limit the speed to that set and the engine revs would go up accordingly - most off putting. Had it all checked out and was told "that was normal".

Mercedes call it SPEEDTRONIC,, a variable speed limiter, got it on the SL
However much throttle you give it, car will not go any faster that the set speed Volvo do it as a option on late/current models,, Had a v60 D5 R Design with it on, doubt any XC70 has it

Potentially a dangerous feature. One day I swapped driver/took over driving a new Astra, speed limiter had been set around 30mph but didn't realise this when I was trying to merge onto a busy dual carriageway... My fault of course but a case of a solution looking for a problem I think... Better to have an intelligent warning system that reads speed limit signs

My old Peugeot 407 had this, it's just a speed limiter and I found it very useful and miss it somewhat on my S40. When I was looking for a replacement for that I found some newer V60's have a limiter too. I have a back problem which gives me sciatica so dialing 70mph into the limiter on the motorway and flooring it was less painful to do than feathering the throttle and preferable to cruise in some situations and the Pug had plenty of warning you were using the limiter and a big display to show you what speed it was set at, also once you switched the engine off it canceled whatever you had on the limiter.
