V50 2.0 D Engine System Service required
Just filled up with Diesel, pulled out of garage and accelerated away when the 'engine system service required message' appeared on dash display, unlike previous occurances cruise is still functioning, and car is not displaying any poor running etc, its a pain because I like to drive with the instant fuel consumption displayed so I can try and drive more economically!
I tried turning engine off for a while, but still the same. Any ideas? I suspect its the DPF fluid level, only because I have just filled up,and if it has run out it can't do its usual top up. At work at present, just hope it gets me home. |

I am not sure but does this mean. Simply your car requires a service. To reset the service counter.
Turn the ignition switch to position 1 press and hold the trip odometer resert button, then turn the ignition switch to position 2 within 2 seconds. release the reset button within 4 seconds The instrument panel gives an audible signal when ressetting has been successful. NOTE if the odometer is already reset, the button must be held in for a minimum of 10 seconds and a maximum of 14 seconds hope this helps mark |

Thanks
I was driving along trying to remember if the last time I gave the car an oil and filter change (6 months ago) if I had to reset something, old age plays with the mind! Will give it a try Many thanks again |

It will need to be topped up and then error code reset as well as fluid service counter reset too. The car will run fine but it may not regenerate the dpf correctly so ultimately the dpf may block with limp mode condition and limited power output. If you have not had service by Volvo agent then this will be the reason. Non franchised outlets will not service cars properly and certanly not always service this subsystem. The old expression... "you pays your money....." etc. |

Thanks everone..
Just nipped down to car and did the reset button procedure and service message now gone.. allelujah!! I have serviced the car twice now once in March and the last time 2 weeks ago, and as I said I did this same procedure before to clear this message. Worst part of doing the the March service was the fuel filter, a real pain if you dont have a hand pump and the right size piping. At 129k miles and the price of labour costs as they are, I find it a necessity to do the basic jobs myself, keeps me away from the MG Midget I am restoring Thanks again |

you may not be completely out of the woods yet.
Engine System Service required message indicates some kind of fault. "Time for regular service" is what displays when car is due a service. This can be cleared be procedure described above. |

Ive just had this problem on my S40 D5. I had it serviced and this message popped up, no codes stored. Had the light reset by garage and it returned within 50 miles. I had no power issues either.
Booked it in with Volvo and it was the DPF clogged up. Required two days with Volvo to sort and a software upgrade. |
