Exclamation Anti Skid Service Required message

My 2005 V50 displays this message all the time. ABS is functioning properly but no traction control, As I allways switch this off can anyone tell me what causes the message and is it doing any harm. John

I had this message appear too. It required a new "brake sensor module" to be fitted at the dealers - fortunately still within 3 year warranty, so I have no idea of the cost. I got the distinct impression this was a far from unusual fault.

Also quite a few other posts about this message elsewhere on the forum when I looked.

I had this problem too so I took my S40 (2004 model) to local dealer. They put it to diagnostics, erased all the alarms on ECU and said it is fixed. But after several miles, it appeared again. Finally they had to change electronic unit under the steering wheel for about 400 EUR. I was told this unit is responsible for airbag and DSTC function.

Yes, I've been getting this message on and off for the past few weeks too. Driving it home in the snow last week I momentarily got a whole host of additional idiot lights and messages, including the brake failure message, but this hasn't repeated itself.

I've been working on the assumption that this is a dodgy sensor and will mention it when it next goes in for service.

Spoke too soon.

Jumped in the car today and got a repeat of the "brake failure" message together with a fail-to-start. Turned it off and on a few times to clear the fault and the car ran faultlessly all day.

Might be booking it in a bit sooner though.

Post Diagnostics

Go to a decent garage with VIDA diagnostics, all the faults should be stored within the computer. Get it plugged in and it should point to the problem, sounds like a possible sensor.

Booked mine in this morning with the same fault - airbags, anti-skid and failure to start. Had to trailer it to the showroom at a cost of £60. Girl on the counter says they may go for a "goodwill" refit from Volvo. As I just paid out £160 for an ignition switch refit - another inherent fault - I will scrap the car rather than pay up to £1500 to sort out Volvo's failings on a 2005 S40 with 26000 miles from new.

Ray Chapman Motors ahve just called my father to ask how he was getting on with his car.

What a shame that two days after they "repaired" the car it was sold to Mill Volvo Knaresborough who have since sold the car on.

Dad now has a V50 DRIVe which having driven myself last week is a huge improvement.

Ride, NVH, Gearbox (5 speed) all much much better than 04 2.0d S40 and it is soooooooooooo economical

Likely cost of repairing your car is £15-£20. I had the same thing every year on the same day after MOT done. Impossible and highly suspect. When you had MOT done and when when your problem began? Car fixed or not yet? Kind regards.

My mothers 07 C30 2.0 d had exactly the same fault a few weeks ago with all the idiot lights coming on along with the anti skid and park assist service. Was diagnosed as a faulty battery by local dealer. may wnat to go to an independant to get that checked before going to main dealer if your out of warranty!!
