Alternator Advice Please
I have a new engine installed in my RHD amazon . It dosent have the two holes on the near side of the block to fit an alternator . i think it must have been a dynamo block at some point as its got the 3 mounting holes in the os for a dynamo bracket . Does anyone know if theres a bracket available that i can mount an alternator on please ?

"new engine"?...B18 or B20?...it makes a diff!...late B18s and all B20s had a cast-in pivot for alt on manifold side (and I don't know about "two holes"and near side, because of that LHD/RHD thing...I like Manifold vs.Distrib side, so there's no doubt!)...mount options are best shown here (probably a pic of a B20): For stateside conversions, I recommend the kit which I supply, which accommodates a Delco Alt, because of their ease/cost of procurement and service this side of the Atlantic, but for Europeans, I would say the Bosch has similar advantages, so if your engine does not have the pivot, you would need the adapter which bolts to three holes and presents a pivot for the Bosch Alt housing. I believe ipd supplies these but have no further info. If the pivot is present, I believe the mounting is straightforward, and wiring is per Wiring Diagram of the vehicle Bosch Alt came from. Note: Delco and Bosch Alt housing are different so there is no cross-fit possible. Hope that helps...Cheers |

This is an option. I think Brookhouse can also supply.
https://www.amazoncars.co.uk/part.as...n+mounting+kit This is a bracket from IPD to fit alternator in the dynamo position. Scandcar does a similar one. Shown in the other pic. Dynamo mount can be adapted with some crafty welding but make it strong. Mount plate without the rubber bushes. None needed for an alternator. |

LHD Alternator Bracket: IPD/Brookhouse/VP etc
Quote:
For a LHD B20, that is. Just want to be sure all good before I go ahead. ...right now however; I have found a snapped-off bolt in middle-one of the 3 x dynamo bolt holes on the side of the engine block, courtesy of the PO.. Going to tap centre with drift, drill and lefty-extract out (hopefully) Any other tips on resolving this hidden headache would be mega appreciated. I'd actually love to get one of Ron's brackets, but in UK figure the duty&excise add-on might be nasty nowadays.. Cheers, B. Last edited by BLS07; Feb 17th, 2022 at 18:57. |

Hi Derek,
Thanks for the quick reply and link! That's the bracket I have, from Brookhouse too. Just finding the fitment doesn't run true to how I thought it would do. i.e the front "pivot" bolt hole - boss on the LHD engine block would still have to be the first point of contact for the "pivot" bolt and the alternator. (not sure why anyone wouldn't use that bossed "pivot" hole placement) Maybe that suggests a much longer bolt is needed to run : From front side of Alternator > through "pivot' hole boss > across top of brookhouse bracket > into the top "hex" bolt hole on said bracket. Just doesn't appear like the front 3 Dynamo bracket holes won't line up, otherwise. Very much overworked and under-slept, so I may be overworking and under-thinking this 'predicament'. Sorry for potential (if not probable) daftness here!! |
