P1800 1963

Hello I have just purchased a p1800 although she looked amazing
When I went to see the car when I got it back and started stripping it down
Found fibre glass repairs on most of the the bottom panels all around the
Car I have now cut away all panels and replaced them with new panels
Also have taken out the windscreens and all doors stripped and new metal
Runners replaced for the rubber door seals the car was orignally dark grey 80
Now silver as I am going to do a bare a metal respray I would like to change the colour any idea please on which colour I should do gunmetal is my first choice ?

The original grey is one of the nicest colours for the 1800 IMO and I certainly wouldn't change it. Metallic paint isn't "right" for a '63 car. It would also, again IMO, devalue the car. However, it's your car and the choice is yours. Perhaps choose a suitable Volvo charcoal, there are several shades, to keep it in the family so to speak, if you go down that path.

I am doing mine in Ferrari gun metal grey. I know it is not an original colour, but im keeping mine for a long time and so wanted it in my choice. I love it. However, I am noticing a fair few now are being painted in gunmetal.

The gunmetal is nice and will complement the red interior the darker colours I feel don't complement the car lines

Hi I had exactly the same choice to make. Chose the original grey shade 80. So happy I did. Very easy to clean , easy to touch up ( unlike metallic ) Keeps the car original and looks great. The contrast between the dark grey and the masses of chrome trim work well. other colours look good as well and I did consider Aston silver and Ferrari grigio metallica ( Grey ). Regards Paul

I don't think I've ever seen that colour in the flesh. In the pics, it almost looks black, is it as dark as it looks in the pics? Fab looking car, the colour really does suit it.

My vote would be to stay with the original colour it looks great on the car but this site shows all options Volvo customers had when they were ordering their new car.
