Price increases - will they stay this time?
Just compared the price of a plug-in XC60 Ultra (MY2025) with an Ultimate (MY2024). The specs are identical, only the name has changed, but the Ultra is nearly £6k more due to the offer price being much less generous. Same applies to the XC90 but with a £5k increase. I noticed too that most of the XC60 Ultras that are scheduled for production have 21" wheels. Why oh why...
Glad I didn't cancel my order from last Sept as the car would now cost over £8k more. Examples attached. _

So if you want to purchase outright (as I did my XC90), ordering an Ultimate is ~£5k cheaper than an Ultra right now.

fairly typical to get a finance contribution when you take PCP, its from the finance company rather than manufacturer.

If wanting to purchase outright, you could be clever and go through the whole order process to purchase using the PCP option to get the bigger discount and after collection of the car, pay it off in full within the 14 day cooling off period to keep the larger discount, any additional perks that may have been offered (free servicing etc) and have no interest fee's incurred as you pay off before the finance period actually starts.
Play the game and reap the rewards.

Agreed, but the point here is that if you buy the identical 2024 MY outright as opposed to on PCP, you still get £9k off vs a much smaller saving if you buy the 2025 MY. I could understand it if there was a facelift or spec changes for the 2025 car, but they’re the same.
