Winter Tyres - Continental vs Nokian
Thought I'd start a new winter tyre thread as we've not had one for a couple of hours
My local Volvo dealer has offered me a choice between Continental or Nokian winter tyres at the same price. Just wondered what other people's preference would be? Thank you. |

I would go for the Nokian purely on their reputation for winter tyres
I have just had 4 x Vredestein Wintrac 4 extreme tyres fitted time for the temp to go down and the snow to come

I've got the Continentals and they seem very good but I can't compare since these are the first set I've ever had. They both have an excellent reputation so it's a tough one. Given the choice I may have went with the Nokians but I'm very happy with the Continentals.

Thanks for your thoughts, Teejay1. I'm waiting to hear more details from the dealer and then I'll decide. It's clearly not a subject people have strong opinions about, possibly because winter tyres are a relatively new thing in the UK.

I have Nokians on an old Ford Escort - no problems at all and have performed very well.
I've just fitted a set of V rated ContiWintercontact TS 830p's to my V70 - these have yet to be put through a full winters use, but look to be top quality and have had great reviews. A big advantage for me over the Nokians is that the Contis have a good sidewall rib that looks to offer substantial kerb protection to the alloys |

Thanks for your response oldsteve (not so old, I'm sure!). I've just heard from the dealer that it is Continental winter contact tyres that they are offering, so I may well go with those. Nokians could be WR A3, which is apparently their latest winter tyre.

I don't think you would be disappointed with either to to be honest, I've used Nokians, Vredestein and now the Contis.
