Default "Check Brake Light"

Hi my 52 V70 has started messaging me everytime i apply footbrake. I have checked replaced all bulbs, the led works as do the upper brake lights. the stop/tail lights do not. I am puzzled as they work on DRL? any help greatly received.

we need the exact symptoms , what exactly are and are not working? You say the upper brake lights are working then say the stop/tail lights are not , a bit confusing ...

Ok, alllow me to clarify.

car has DRl so under normal conditions rear lights are on these are the ones that have a stop / tail bulb fitted and are housed in the lower cluster.

When the brake pedal is pressed a message appears "check brake light", wife is pressing brake, i am at rear of car looking at and led and two brake lights one either side in the upper cluster. the ones in the lower cluster that are stop/tail lights do not work. ie the tail light does not get brighter.

so basicly you are saying the two main stop lights don't work .

The LED is controlled direct from the front of the car whilst the two main stop lights are controlled by the Rear Electronic Module behind the left side panel opening . I would guess it is the relay , usualy coloured blue at the top . Swap it with one of the other black ones just to confirm ....

the blue one is normaly the brake light relay , is it clicking when the pedal is pressed? If so it's most likely faulty!
