I think auto transmissions are a lot less common in the UK than in the US. Certainly most of the D24T engined cars I've come across are manual boxes, though I know autos were available

You can turn up the idle by adjusting the slotted screw as suggested to about the 5pm position, which does make a difference i.e. the car does not feel quite as slow, or fiddle with the top nut which alters the amount of fuel delivered when the turbo is functioning, which I've not tried, but see posts by hawaianblue/craig8661 (who do not however tell you which way to turn the nut). The power increases from such adjustments would not be vast and the load would not be as great as might happen with towing, so presumably the transmission could cope. The Chilton manual has a paragraph on changing the oil and cleaning the mesh strainer.

turning up the pump
If you turn the screw to the right (clockwise) more power. I have turned it to the point where the engine idles at 1500. It has plenty of acceleration power and changes gear faster. Just a lot of smoke... On the road it drives normally. I have mine back to the normal setting, as its fun to have the acceleration power, but the driver behind you will think that your car is the cause of global warming
