Throttle hesitation
I have a problem, when I blip the throttle, there is a slight hesitation before the engine rev's up. This is really annoying when you want to pull away as you have to allow the engine to 'die' for a second before there are enough rev's to go. The car is a 740GL 2.3 with a carburettor. I would certainly appreciate any advise from anyone. Thank you.

RE: Throttle hesitation
I found that this is a quirk of the non injected 740 I found that by changing the carb to twin choke webber & throwing away the existing carb it made it only marginally better. Stick with it and youll find that you tend to anticipate the "do you really want me to go? ...when....now?" lag,

RE: Throttle hesitation
Sounds like the accelerator pump diaphragm to me.
Squirts petrol into venturi at point of throttle movement to richen up the mixture and stop hesitation. Diaphragm may well be leaky. Quite simple to replace. Check Haynes for details Andy |

RE: Throttle hesitation
Either diaphram as above or the little bent over injector jet has crud in it. Also check that when you move throttle the lever pushes against the pump acuating rod and compresses spring. It should then fairly quickly even out as petrol is squirted up accelarating jet. One problem I had was a missing plug in the top of the carb. A hexagonal ish shaped plug was missing for some reason and it took a lot of reasoning to find it and wonder why it had gone for a walk. Cheers Nigel
